In 2000, Schoodic Scenic Byway was designated a National Scenic Byway one of the few to be chosen out of many applicants across the country.  The Byway features the shoreline marked by lighthouses, wildflowers, osprey, eagles and views of Schoodic and Cadillac Mountains and Mount Desert Island and the breathtaking Schoodic Point, one of the most scenic areas in Acadia National Park.

Studioverde collaborated with the local Byway Committee over the course of 18 months and prepared a series of simple sketch options for wayfinding, gateway signage, walkways to coastal overlook areas, planning for future restroom on ecologically sensitive site, parking  and a pavilion design.  One of the most popular features – the Byway gateway sign evolved from Studioverde’s concept drawings for a  piece of local granite, in its natural form, crafted to mimic the shape of nearby Schoodic Mountain, which is clearly visible from the gateway entrance.  The concept for the sign was unanimously approved by the Committee, and has been the signature feature for the beloved roadway corridor.
