Lisa is Sustainable SITES AP (Accredited Professional) and licensed Landscape Architect. Her work reflects a lifelong commitment to the protection and restoration of ecosystem services and a desire to elevate community engagement in the natural world.
Lisa was featured in Landscape Architecture Magazine (2015) for her pioneering work in ecological design and wetland restoration. She led some the first documented integrated design teams comprised of landscape architects, wetland scientists, ecologists, and hydrologists that planned, designed and implemented over 30 successful ecological restoration projects between 1991 and 2003.
Lisa launched Studioverde in 2003 as a landscape architectural practice focused on ecological and sustainable design for public and private development projects. She led the Studioverde design team on several high profile federal and state projects, such as the Margaret Chase Smith Federal Building, a Memorial Garden and courtyard for a federal campus in Quantico, Virginia, and a Homeland Security border crossing station in northern Maine.
After years of working on a national scale to promote sustainable design, Lisa is taking Studioverde to a new level. Through her nationwide network she has brought together top experts to offer Sustainable SITES (SITES) facilitation and Studioverde holds one of the largest US portfolios of SITES registered projects. And, through the dedicated efforts of the Studioverde team, in 2017 the Atlanta Beltline, Inc., adopted the SITES framework and certification for the development of their globally recognized trail and park projects.
Lisa leverages her extensive experience in the design of natural systems with a practical economical approach to each Sustainable SITES certification project.
“Studioverde demonstrates that SITES certification can be streamlined and rewarding. Many clients and development teams are already working to achieve sustainability and resiliency in their projects, but they are not getting the recognition they deserve either from their customers, community stakeholders, regulatory agencies or even their financial and insurance partners. SITES is all about engaging in a process that identifies resiliency and sustainability goals, establishes a process to achieve those goals, and as a result, makes it easier to understand why SITES certification and a sustainable design approach makes good business sense. Our clients and partners continue to see significant cost savings while improving their environmental and social equity outcomes due to Studioverde’s SITES expertise. “
Lisa has established her reputation as a thought leader on this topic as a writer, speaker and teacher at venues such as Greenbuild, the American Society of Landscape Architects and the Ecological Landscape Alliance conferences. She is also a visiting instructor at the University of Cincinnati and Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. See more about Lisa’s and Studioverde’s team talks here.
